The School of Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture seeks to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Film to contribute to the teaching of film theory and practice, and to make a strong contribution to research in the successful candidate’s areas of specialism in the broad field of Film and Visual Culture.
The successful candidate will undertake teaching, assessment and administrative duties relevant to the requirements of the School. They will teach on the undergraduate MA programme in Film and Visual Culture, the MLitt programme in Film, Visual Culture and Arts Management, and on other programmes as agreed with the Head of School. They will also contribute to the supervision of research students, and will undertake research of internationally recognised quality. Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant area and some experience of university teaching.
You will have a PhD in a relevant area. You will have some experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and ideally of working with students from diverse backgrounds. You will be fluent in English, and have excellent written and spoken communication skills. You will be able to engage with students effectively in both face-to- face and online settings, and will be able to promote student learning in a range of ways.

You will have an excellent understanding of film history and theory. You will be able to convene/teach on existing modules such as Introduction to Film and the Cinematic Experience as well as to develop new courses in your areas of expertise for UG and PG programmes.
Applications in any area of film are welcome. Applicants with a specialism in cinemas and screen cultures from outside Europe and North America are especially encouraged to apply. Experience of film/digital video production and technical skills would also be welcome.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 7, £42,149- £50,296 per annum and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
This role is based in the UK and as such the successful candidate will be required to live and work in the UK.
